On January 16th ten of our students of 3º ESO participated in the Preliminary Conferences of the International Project GLOBAL CLASSROOMS, MODEL UNITED NATIONS XI edition. The Conferences were held at CRIF Las Acacias and the girls were accompanied by their Social Studies teacher Elvira Azpeitia and their language
assistant Emlyn Foxen
The topics set by the organization to debate this year have been: “Combatting Violence against Women (Joining Hands for
Women´s Rights)”, Human Rights Council (HRC) “Juvenile Crime and Violence (as
an Effect of Socioeconomic Conditions)”,United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF)
.
The topic for our school was:
“Juvenile Crime and Violence (as an
Effect of Socioeconomic Conditions). All the students of 3º ESO bilingual section prepared their Position Papers on the topic and only ten were chosen to attend the Preliminary Conferences. They had to give the Opening speeches representing the following countries: Latvia, France, Cambodia / United Arab Emirates, Peru. They have competed with other 9 high schools in each group making up a Final Resolution.
We don't know if they will be chosen for the Final Conference but we are sure the experience has been great and rewarding for the the participants.
